"My students are 6 and 7th grade special needs functional skills students. This means their learning is focused on life skills and those academics which will be important to their level of independence as they grow up.

They are also English Language Learners with many speech disorders. I need to instruct them using hands on, language rich, visually stimulating and creative techniques which will help them generalize in a variety of environments. I take them into community settings at least twice per month.

Nutrition, exercise and body awareness are critical components of our curriculum.

Our district is a high needs district with many single parent homes , English language learners and limited financial resources for my program, beyond the basic classroom supplies.

I need classroom resources which I can use to build their schema about health, nutrition and their bodies. After using these materials in my classroom to build vocabulary and comprehension skills, I will plan to take them to restaurants, farmer's markets, health facilities, and the local YMCA for an exercise program.

Your donations will provide my 10 students and the other 27 functional skills students at my school, with much needed materials. These will not only benefit their health but provide materials to send home to the parents. Most of these students do not understand the amount of control they can have over their health and I want them to feel empowered.

My 6th grade special education students need 6 materials, including a Health & Safety Theme Box, a Going to the Doctor Teaching Kit and a Hands-On Classification Center.

Dear Kris and Alexandra, keith and anna, Scott, kiki, Staci, Elizabeth, Pete Johnson and Anonymous Donor,

I am so thrilled that each of you have recognized the needs of my special children. They are my life and their health and safety is my priority. Through your generosity, I can begin teaching them a life long lesson, using hands -on and motivating materials.
In these days of budget cut backs and a weakened economy, needs of classroom teachers are increased and we have to look outside our normal realm for the materials we need. Through this wonderful organization and your involvement with it, you have made our dream come true.

Please be assured that these materials will benefit many children through the coming years and they will be told of your generosity. Take care and we will send pictures of my students doing activities with these materials. Bless you all.

With gratitude,
Mrs. D.
