"These high school kids need the opportunity to read and study. Our school is international, meaning most of our students are trying to learn history and English at the same time.
In our history class we have heavy hardcover text books, but the students aren't allowed to take them out of the classroom. We use these books, which have lots of primary sources and very clear writing, to help students who struggle with English still grasp the big ideas of history, and prepare for the 10th grade Regents exam.
Because our standard text books are out of date and the reading level is too difficult for many of my students, we use these books in class every day. Unfortunately, that means I have to make 34 copies of each chapter. That's reams and reams of paper every week, which isn't good for the classroom, the copier, or the planet. And it makes things more difficult for students who want to keep handouts to study from unit to unit. If the students had their own books they'd be able to keep everything they've learned in one place.
My students want to learn more than we have time to read about in class. Your help will ensure that they have the opportunity to practice reading, pass the Global history Regents with good scores, and become citizens of the world.
My students need their own copies of this text book that they can bring home.

Dear Nat and Rachel, Richard Lovett, Ericka, Victoria, Becky, Kelly, S., A. Nony Mouse, Blanca, Lelac and Jeff, Anne, Gwen, Ruth, anna, Claire, Tabby, Maryam, Jess and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you so much for your incredible contributions to our classroom. High schoolers aren't often excited about reading, but these students really are!
It makes a tremendous difference in planning time for me, as a teacher, to be able to ask students to read at home to prepare for a lesson. And it makes a huge difference in the students' ability to study when they can look back at chapters we have already covered. These students are understanding more and better because they have the resources they need.
Please know that your contributions have made a real difference for these kids and their futures. Thank you so much.
With gratitude, Ms. A.

Dear Nat and Rachel, Richard Lovett, Ericka, Victoria, Becky, Kelly, S., A. Nony Mouse, Blanca, Lelac and Jeff, Anne, Gwen, Ruth, anna, Claire, Tabby, Maryam, Jess and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you so much for donating to this project! I am overwhelmed and overjoyed at your generosity. The students in this class are taking the state Regents exam at the end of the year, and now they will be able to bring home text books to study from. This will mean a HUGE increase in the amount of class time we'll be able to spend having debates, working on projects, doing mock trials, and all kinds of other learning.
I can't wait to tell the students about these books when I see them in September! Please know that you have made a huge difference in the lives of these young people.
Great news -- this project is now a reality! We ordered the materials and they were sent directly to the classroom.

"I gave to this project because Rachel is an excellent, caring teacher and her students deserve to have books to learn from, for cryin' out loud. No books? In this day and age? And we the wealthiest nation on the planet? Outrageous. Intolerable. The kids are our future, so they need to learn about the past."

"I gave to this project because I think it's important that children get the best education they can. I hope that a lesson is learned that even if you don't have much, maybe you can spare a little to help others. Rachel, you have a great friend and I'm glad she informed me of the need your class has and I'm glad I could help."
