" I teach 5th grade math and science in a small rural school. For many students this is their first experience learning science.

My students are excited to learn both math and science, but we have very limited access to supplies and resources. The don't want to come in and read about other people doing awesome stuff with Math and Science skills - they want to do it themselves!

Many of these resources, such as the cell models, rocks, and math manipulatives will help students to understand important math and science concepts. The other supplies, such as paper and markers will help students create projects that will further deepen their learning. It is important in school for students to not just see and hear information, but to also have a chance to do something with that information - from creating math equations with tooth-picks, to using tracing paper overlays to illustrate body systems.

Your help will ensure that my students won't have to settle for simply reading about science and math in a textbook. They will have opportunities to do hands-on activities that will get them excited about school, learning, and the great wide world around them.

My students need 28 various math and science manipulatives such Tangrams, tracing paper, manila folders, cell models, and construction paper. The cost of this proposal is $537, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear Dave, I invest in kids., Dr. Sergi, Sandman, Bill, Susan, Paul, Ann and Anonymous Donor,
What an exciting moment it is to check my e-mail only to discover that my Donors Choose project proposal will now become a reality thanks to your donation and enthusiasm for student learning.   We have had a great year so far in my math and science class.  The materials that you have helped provide will increase my student's excitement for learning by allowing us to do many creative projects that will help them explore math and science concepts in a concrete hands-on way.  I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when I tell them that we are going to make three-dimensional geometric shapes, or when I display the insect x-rays and the cell models.  What fun when they are required to solve problem solving challenges by working with a team to build the tallest toothpick tower or the toothpick bridge that can hold the most weight.  Imagine all of the math and science concepts that can and will be integrated!
What better way to create life-long learners than to make learning feel less like work and more like enjoyment!

With gratitude,
Mrs. H.
