MORE "Due to a security breach at my inner-city middle school, my classroom was robbed a few days ago. Many important supplies that support my struggling students were taken.
Among the items stolen was my collection of personal CD players. I have collected many "discmen" over the past two years so that low-level readers are able to check out audiobooks and have a way to listen to them at home. This extra scaffold allows kids to listen to the voice of a proficient reader, which translates into accelerated reading growth and increased self-confidence with reading.
I also put important class content to the lyrics of popular songs so that students are motivated to learn and study. Kids love borrowing the CD players so they can practice what they have learned in class at home. I don't want my new classes to have to go without the benefits of this learning staple. I am reaching out to the DonorsChoose community so that I can replace these invaluable tools before my students suffer. We need six personal CD players, and rechargeable batteries to power them. Please help us rebuild after a devastating blow early in the school year! Prove to my students that, despite the sometimes harsh realities of living in an impoverished neighborhood, they still have the tools they need to succeed.
