I teach K-5 art in a central Illinois public school. The classroom is small, but we have fun and do a lot of interesting projects.
Our needs for drawing books are twofold:
First, when students get finished with a project, they sometimes draw a blank on what to do with their remaining unstructured time. I need them to be able to work independently on something, while I help other students finish their projects.
Second, while drawing, many students have trouble knowing how to start a drawing or how to break an object down into simple shapes.
The "How-to-Draw" books I have selected will help students have something to work on independently when they are finished with their assigned projects. Additionally, they can be used as a tool to help hesitant artists find a starting place for their drawings.
Students who enjoy art classes are more likely to make art part of their lives many years after they have left my classroom. By helping us get these books, you will help students enjoy art class.
