"Imagine standing in a spotlight on a dark stage, the director stares blankly from the dark seating of the theatre, but you don't have anything to say...I need a monologue! I teach theatre arts to 9th through 12th grade students in a rural center Georgia high school. For many of these students, this is their first exposure to the performing arts.

Students simply cannot afford to purchase monologue collections of their own. The generous donation of these supplies will open the audition doors to students who in the past have not auditioned.

The addition of various monologue collections, original monologue writing guides, and monologue delivery methods will encourage students to audition for theatrical productions and become more involved in the arts.

Your help will ensure that my students have the tools they need to present an effective audition monologue for both class assignments as well as productions. I have seen so often that students who become involved in the arts succeed not only in the theatre, but in secondary and post-secondary courses. How often have you heard students say, "I hate getting up in front of people."? Experience on stage and auditioning changes that statement to "May I present first?"! hide»

My students need 1 copy of these 23 monologue books for auditioning. details»

Dear Caiti, Clare, Susan, La, Community Foundation of Central Georgia and Anonymous Donor,

When the office called down to my room to tell me a package had arrived, the students asked if I thought it could be the Stage Fright Survival Kit monologues. When we opened the box it seemed like something out of Shark Week. There was immediately a monologue feeding frenzy. They opened the books and directed each other to favorites within the first few moments. The students quickly expressed how pleased they were and commented on how these books would help them in class and at auditions.
The timing could not have been better as we were preparing for one act play auditions when the books arrived. Several students switched from the piece they had chosen and memorized a new selection for auditions. It was exactly the reaction I anticipated, perhaps even better! These students were truly grateful for books your donations provided for them. Before I could ask for volunteers to write thank you notes, several students expressed their desire to thank the donors in some way.
One of the greatest values to your donation is the longevity of the materials. While students were able to use these books already, they will use them again and again this year for a variety of in class projects and audition opportunities. Additionally, these books will be available for years to come. Your generosity sets an excellent example for our students and the school system. Thank you again for your support of the performing arts in our school and community.

With gratitude,
Mr. S.

Dear Caiti, Clare, Susan, La, Community Foundation of Central Georgia and Anonymous Donor,

Let me begin by saying how honored I am that you have chosen to support the Stage Fright Survival Kit and the students that will directly benefit from your generosity. Every school year over 175 students enroll in one of six theatre arts courses. These students range in experience from new comers to those who already feel comfortable on the stage.
One of the constant needs for young actors is a good audition monologue. Imagine their surprise when they open the box filled with monologues, contemporary and classic, and tools to write original pieces. Your donations will benefit my students for years to come. I began my request with the image of a young person entering the light on a darkened stage, nerves shaking, voice quivering. With your gift these same students can enter the light with confidence.

With gratitude,
Mr. S.
