We Like To Move It Move It- Fitness Fun in Grade 1!

My students need playground balls, activity mats, hopping sacks, a floating parachute ball, a rainbow parachute, and balancing balls game.

I am a first grade teacher in a Title 1 school in N.C. In my classroom there are many military students due to our location. This fall will be the start of my third year teaching. For the past three years I have taken my students outside everyday to play (unless it is raining) with minimal playground equipment. Growing up I remember outside time with my teacher was one of the best times of the day. Especially if you had a teacher who would play with you. I love spending time outside having fun with my class. This year, I want my students to truly enjoy outside time and have fun while being healthy. Unhealthy school aged kids is a big problem in the US today and if I can help my 1st grade student to have fun outside and learn about healthy lifestyles then I will be successful as a teacher.

The problem I face with making outside time enjoyable for my students is the minimal amount of outside toys and resources I have. In the back of my classroom I have an old beat up laundry basket filled with a few old jump ropes, some Frisbees, a football, and a few old balls. It is hard for a group of 20 plus students to share these few pieces and it is even harder for me as a teacher to plan games for us to play with my limited resources. Our playground equipment bucket is in need of a serious makeover or again this year my student will be stuck playing with the few old toys we have.

Our outside time could be lots of fun and very structured and rewarding for my students if we could have a huge new selection of toys and resources to use. Goodbye old laundry basket and hello new playground equipment! For our dreams to come true of having a successful outside time as a class we would need the following Lakeshore items: two balancing ball games, one set of Let's Get Moving Activity Mats, one set of heavy duty hopping sacks, one floating parachute ball, one rainbow parachute, and one set of playground balls. These wonderful new resources would make our outside time as a class fun and exciting. I would be working towards having a healthy and happier first grade class.

By helping to fund our project you will help our classroom to become healthy and fit. You will also help them to create many wonderful memories of amazing games and outside resources they got to use with their first grade teacher. These are memories that can last a lifetime! Plus, you will be helping to make a happier, healthier student. Thanks for giving your love and support to our project!
