I teach in a high-need community where 85% of my students are eligible for free lunch. I am dedicated early childhood professional in the public sector, but resources available to maintain quality programs are diminishing.

Developmentally appropriate practice dictates that I educate the whole (thinking, feeling and moving) child. Ensuring that children stay active can help combat obesity and promote healthy lifestyles. Creating an environment to allow for movement within the classroom and acquiring equipment and props with movement in mind will encourage daily physical activity while fostering skill development.

Through creative planning and direct teaching of specific motor skills my young students will develop competence in movement skills that are building blocks for more complex movement tasks. The Treadmill will provide a low impact workout as my young students walk and learn new healthy ways to stay active. The Nursery Trampoline will provide a high energy release for those youngsters who love to bounce. The Super Skipper will provide a kinesthetic approach to develop endurance as they jump, hop or skip to music. The Busy Body Exercise Cards and the Balance Base will provide opportunities for my students to develop and practice gross motor movements.

Overall fitness affects everything from a child's behavior to his/her ability to focus on a task. As I stimulate their natural curiosity, they will begin to understand why movement is important which promotes a positive attitude toward physical fitness that endures beyond childhood. Your support will make it possible for my young students to "nurture their nimble bodies" and foster fitness fun!
