"Reaching my middle school students is simply the most rewarding aspect of teaching for me. Teaching in a high-needs community unfortunately means my 6th, 7th and 8th grade students sometimes don't have all the resources they need. Which brings me to my problem...

We have a dictionary dilemma!

Our middle school is fairly new and one of my main issues last year was that I only had about 8 old collegiate "pocket" dictionaries for my 30 students. My students love using the dictionaries, but three kids usually had to huddle around and share the tiny pocket dictionaries. Then, once they found the word, students had a hard time understanding the definitions because they were not written in age-appropriate language.

So, I'm pleading for a complete set of 30 intermediate level dictionaries. With new dictionaries, my students be able to enhance their reference, vocabulary and comprehension skills. Plus, these colorful dictionaries will also increase their interest in using reference books more frequently.

Your help will ensure that my students feel empowered. My students know about the budget cuts and have written their local government in attempts to rectify the situation. The bottom line is that I want students to feel proud of their school, themselves and the public at large. I want them to know, despite our funding crisis, that there are people out there that truly care about their futures! They really do deserve the best!

My students need a complete set of 30 age-appropriate dictionaries.

Dear Scorpion, Noemi, Jennifer, a friend, Lea, Trisha, Laurie, Julie, Gaming Girl, Cheryn, HP and Anonymous Donors,

I just want to take this moment to say how much I appreciate your support! The class set of dictionaries you have helped purchase will impact my students in countless ways. I currently teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade, so the thirty dictionaries you have purchased will be used by at least eighty students this year, as well as with future classes to come.

From learning new vocabulary and resource skills to simply knowing that there are people out there that believe in them, my students will benefit from their new dictionaries immensely. This project was fairly costly, and I'm absolutely blown away that it's been funded! I just can't express how much I appreciate your generosity!

Thanks so much!

With gratitude,
Mrs. G.
