"This is my first year teaching K-5 general music in a low-income school in North Carolina. What do you remember about your elementary music class?
I have many memories of my elementary music days. I remember singing, playing games and having fun. Most of all, I remember learning to play the recorder. I would like to provide my 4th grade students with opportunity to participate in Recorder Karate. However, due to their socioeconomic status, my students are unable to purchase the necessary supplies.
My students need two things to make the Karate Recorder program successful. First, my students each need a recorder. It is important for each student to have a recorder because they will need to take it home and practice outside of school. Second, my students will each need a 1" binder in which they can keep copies of their music, fingering chart and practice records.
The Karate Recorder program is a classroom-tested, carefully planned recorder method. At the heart of this method is a positive reward system in which students receive colored "karate belts" to hang from their recorders for each progressively more difficult tune. Stories from the hundreds of teachers who have tried this method rave about the success it has created with all types of students in a variety of settings.
Your help will ensure that each of my students has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential and be successful in this amazing program.
My students need 75 1-inch binders and 75 soprano recorders.

Dear sean flynn, Tony, Richard, Lauren, Mary Lynn, Steve, JOANN, Aunt Mimi, mike, Anthony, Rachel and Anonymous Donor,
Thank you again for your donation to my classroom. My students are beyond excited to be participating in Recorder Karate. Hugs and smiles were abundant while I was passing out the supplies. The students took great care and ownership in decorating their binders.
Although we can only play three notes and one song right now, I am sure that this program is going to be a success. Students in other grades are anxiously waiting to see their older siblings earn their karate belts and sign their names on the wall of fame!
Because of your help, participation in class and school performances has hit an all time high! I cannot thank you enough for your kindness!
With gratitude, Ms. S.

Dear sean flynn, Tony, Richard, Lauren, Mary Lynn, Steve, JOANN, Aunt Mimi, mike, Anthony, Rachel and Anonymous Donor,
I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project.Your support means a lot to me.Because of you, students who would not have to funds to purchase recorders and binders will be able to fully participate in the program. Recorder Karate meets several of the goals on the National Standard Course of Study for Music.Your donation will ensure that each of my students has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential and become a well rounded musician. The students will also be learning many important character traits such as responsibility, self-disciple and hard work. These traits will stick with them throughout their lives and help them to be productive and responsible citizens. Thank you again for being so generous!I look forward to working on this project with my students!
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.
