Can We Have a Live Habitat?

My students need an aquarium, with accessories and filters.

I teach in a low income area, where students face struggles. Many of my students come to school without many school supplies, without having any breakfast, and being the adult in their house, raising their younger siblings. Our school is a Title One school, meaning that all the students receive free lunch.

My students tend to have attention issues and difficulty learning because of extremely stressful situations at home. When they come to school I want them to feel relaxed. I want my students to have a fish tank so when they enter the classroom, they have something to look forward to. This is something the class would care for and have different responsibilities to take care of. I believe that having material like this will not only be a GREAT introduction to science but it will also be a team building activity. The students will take part in naming the fish and taking care of them each and everyday. My students enjoy talking about animals, like dogs and cats, but have never had the opportunity to have a pet because it is too cost prohibitive for their families. I would love for them to have the opportunity to take care of a pet so that they can learn to become responsible individuals.

With the generous help of Donors Choose donors, this aquarium along with additional instruments, will bring the science classroom curriculum to life as well as teach my students to be responsible individuals. Please help me give my students a science activity that will last throughout the years.

These second grade students come from homes that are barely making ends meet. So there is no extra money available for educational trips to the zoo or aquarium. We want to make giving them a sense of ownership that they can come back and say "that is mine: I helped create it and its still here! Your help will ensure that my students attend school and promote a successful school year for the children. This will give them a goal as well as a continuing learning aquarium. Allowing students to contribute, and question "what can I do in the future? Please help, this will mean the world to these well behaved students.
