Presenting Material in a Whole New Way!

My students need a visual presenter to help them engage better with books, demonstrations, and science materials.

I am currently a 4th and 5th grade science teacher at one of the highest performing, K-8 schools in Harlem. My students come to school every day eager and excited about their education and I am always looking for new and innovative ways to engage them in material. I use our classroom overhead projector on a daily basis because it allows me to display material to them in a unique way. When I use the projector, I know that all my students can see the material I am referring to. The problem is that right now our overheads require us to make transparencies - which is quite wasteful. I often incorporate original student work in my teaching. I want my students to learn from each other. If someone has an amazing entry in their notebook, I use it in my teaching. Right now, I find myself constantly making copies of notebook pages and worksheets onto overhead transparencies so I can show the entire class. If I had a visual presenter, I would not have to keep making copies onto transparencies, but instead I would have an immediate way to show original samples and documents to the entire class. Also, our copiers are all black and white, so any images I can currently show are not in color. In addition, our school goes through many boxes of transparencies to give our students the experience they need at great cost. It would be great if we could have a ELMO Visual Presenter for the classroom. As per the website, this new technology would allow me to display actual specimens- “real three- dimensional objects, authentic documents, and pages directly from a book [making] visual presentations more diverse, realistic and vivid…. Deliver real-time, true-to-life presentations that catch and keep the attention of everyone in the room.” The ELMO would greatly change the way my students learn and keep them at the forefront of technology. The ELMO could also be shared throughout the school, reaching over 300 students.
