"Do you ever wish you could meet the people who lived through the events you read about in your history textbooks? Well my inquisitive 4th graders do! I teach a diverse group of students in a high-need community in North Carolina. They are constantly questioning and seeking answers about the world around them.

As part of our social studies and language arts curriculum, we study biographies. In the past I have assigned an influential historical figure to each of my students to research and then present their information in a PowerPoint presentation. This year I would like to take this project to the next level. My students love to work with technology and I firmly believe that they are more fully engaged in their learning when technology is involved. I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to work in groups to interview influential members of their community using Flip camcorders. Using the footage they gather in their interviews, my students will then learn to edit the video footage to create and present a biographical presentation about the person they interviewed.

Through this project, I hope to inspire my students to take an interest in the history of their community and encourage them to learn more about themselves in the process. The technology used in this project will bring biographies to life for my students, help them to fully understand this genre of literature and encourage them to take interest in reading more biographies.

Your contribution to this project will provide my students with an opportunity to learn about history, literature and technology in a way that is fully engaging and builds real world communication skills. Another great benefit is that the Flip camcorders you provide for this project will be used again and again for other exciting hands on projects in our classroom. HIDE

My students need 3 Flip camcorders. The cost of this proposal is $697, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."
