"Our children are our greatest resource in our efforts to stop the spread of global warming. As a fifth grade teacher in a high-need community in Nevada, I have seen my students take an enormous interest in environmental issues. While they are interested, however, many still struggle to navigate through difficult nonfiction texts. As their teacher it is my goal to help them become independent thinkers and readers who consider a problem and try to look for a solution, but it has been difficult to find nonfiction text that inspire much enthusiasm from my students.

As we have read about and discussed environmental issues, I have struggled to find captivating texts and my students have struggled to comprehend the material in some of the texts. As we were reading about global warming, however, one of my students asked about Al Gore's recent documentary. As we watched a few clips together, my students were amazed and fascinated by the pictures in the film and the presentation of the video.

After watching my students respond to Al Gore's message, it was clear to me that a class set of his book would not only help my students become more aware of environmental issues, but his book would also help my students become stronger readers of nonfiction texts.

Your help will make it possible for my students to improve their ability to read nonfiction texts, as well as educate them about a serious environmental issue.

My students need 35 copies of the revised version of Al Gore's book "An Inconvenient Truth" which has been adapted for younger readers.

Dear Trisha,
Thank you all very much for your generous support of this project. I can't wait to share these books with my students. Not only will we benefit from conversations about global warming, but these books will also help my students become more comfortable reading nonfiction texts. These books will also help prepare my students for state exams and will expose them to a critical environmental issue. It will be exciting to hear the different perspectives of my students as we start reading.
I look forward to sharing with you the reactions of my students in the months ahead. Thanks again for your help and generosity!

With gratitude,
Mr. T.
