"I teach AP Language and Composition, Advanced English II, and Senior English in a high school located in a poverty-stricken area of Tennessee.

At the moment, I have bathroom facing (that at one time had a sheen) nailed to what use to be chalk boards. My students love to visually see what I refer to but my approach to teaching has not worked well due to the lack of resources on hand.

I need a portable White board with the necessary components in order to teach to low-income students who are striving to take advanced classes. Students are driven to learn when a visual aid is used. I need to empower them and keep them thinking by letting them "see: what I am teaching.

You will make it possible for students in my class to focus on the belief that people in the community care about the education they receive. My students strive to meet standards that they can't visualize. As a teacher, I need your support. These students need your support.... Please donate! You will be positively rewarding those students who want to go the extra mile in an advanced class.

My students need a reversible mobile easel.

Dear Ron, William, Sycamore Eighth Grade Teachers of 2004-2005, Chubbycat, Brittany, jessica, Nate, @jimdye on Twitter, Vince, Michele, Christian Grantham, Cricket, Paul, Saber and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
I want to send a sincere thank-you note for your contributions to my classroom. We were in need of a whiteboard and not only has it arrived, but we are using it today in class. My students helped me put the board together and were so very excited to know how much people care about their education. With my warmest wishes, I want to thank each donor and I want you to know that your generosity has made a difference to the students in my class.
Funding in most of the nations counties are at an all time low, and there isn't enough money to distribute for items that are truly essential to a class of students. Most of my students are visual learners and they need to see, visually, what I am talking to them about. The whiteboard gives them the opportunity to get that visual aid and use it to their benefit.
There was no way I could have funded this project personally, and I did pray for the help. I thank each and every one of you for giving in a time when money is tight and resources are lacking....

With gratitude,
Mrs. P.

Mrs. P. sent this note after the project was fully funded:

Dear Ron, William, Sycamore Eighth Grade Teachers of 2004-2005, Chubbycat, Brittany, jessica, Nate, @jimdye on Twitter, Vince, Michele, Christian Grantham, Cricket, Paul, Saber and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
I never thought so many people were dedicated to the well-being of the students in a single classroom. The response to this project was quite overwhelming to me and my students found excitement every time I told them a new sponsor gave to our project. The whiteboard I have asked for will make a huge difference to the visual aspects of learning, and I thank you all.
Sometimes when funding is hard to come by and it looks like there is little left available for help, a teacher brings up a way to "find" the money. My AP professor, over the past summer, mentioned Donorschoose.org and I am very thankful for the ability to help my students by asking for a very simple instrument.... a whiteboard. Thank you all for donating. God Bless you!

With gratitude,
Mrs. P.

"I gave to this project because I am a visual learner as well, and without visual learning aids such as white boards I probably wouldn't have been as academically successful as I am. To me, white boards are simple, almost necessary items because I use several at work and even several at home to write down To-Do lists, grocery lists, etc. They are a great aid in organization as well. To find that a classroom in Tennessee is not able to afford one is disheartening. I wish you all good luck & success!"
