"I teach at a newly built elementary school in a growing part of town. We have over 1,200 students in a building made for 850. A relief school is planned to help relieve our growth, but the students keep enrolling as all of the new houses/apartments/condos are built. I have 19 students and that will probably increase by the end of the year.
Many of my students come from homes where their parents cannot help them with all of their schoolwork. Many parents are unprepared and do not have the skills necessary to complete the "new math program" and higher order thinking skills. My students need take-home backpacks that will help them practice skills and let them connect school to home. My students will be able to take these backpacks home, which are FULL of activities and a reading selection. They will then be able to work on skills at home with their siblings and parents. All of the kits come with directions, reusable materials and a reading selection. When students are able to work on activities with their families, they can begin to "bridge the gap" from school to home. With your help, I can prepare my students to be successful students and let them see how important it is to continue their learning at home. My students need 5 take-home backpacks that will help them practice skills and let them connect school to home. HIDEMrs. D.'s Classroom:
