The students in my classroom have such natural talent and abilities, I want to be able to provide them with better resources for self-expression. I teach 3rd-5th grade music in a low income area and we are a Title 1 school.

While it seems as though our school funds are able to provide for better technology, the music room is often overlooked. I do have some instruments in my classroom but very few are in good condition and we are always having to take turns when the students do get to play.

Last school year I wanted to do drum circle activities with my kids because this is a great way to build community, reinforce musical concepts, and allow freedom of expression. It was a lot of fun for the students, however we were only able to do a limited amount of activities because all I had was half a set of hand drums. Many of the lessons require a larger drum called the "tubano." It adds a much richer sound to the music and I know my students would be so excited to play it because they squeal every time they see my old beat up conga drum.

I would like to acquire 2 tubano drums so that I will be able to play back and forth with each student in Question/Answer style. Or when the students become more advanced they can practice with partners. By supporting this project you will make it possible for these kids to experience new kinds of music and express themselves in a unique way. Thank you!
