Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher, working in a title 1 district, which is equivalent to an overall lower socio-economic area. The school district makes every effort to support the needs of its teachers and students, however, they are not always able to provide; and most of our parents aren't in a position to donate time and/or materials.

Lack of storage is always an issue for students and teachers. Building Literacy and Parent Involvement/Communication is essential to us. In order to facilitate both in and out of the classroom, we want to make sure that materials in the classroom, and safe-keeping Book Bags (to be sent home) and Homework/Communication Folders to the parents are easily accessible, and kept safe in the classroom.

A cubby unit will not only solve the storage issue, but will also help with additional classroom management issues. The students will be able to easily locate Book-Bags and take their Homework/Communication Folder home from their individualized cubby. In addition, they may also house an extra set of clothing in case of an emergency. They are still very young, and this will essentially help to develop their organizational skills, while giving them a sense of responsibility.

Your help will essentially provide a valuable tool to ensure that underprivileged students, and many that are experiencing school for the first time ever, will do so in a more organized environment, with a sense of accomplishment and success! :
