"Learning about each state in the Union is not as fun as combining that education with learning about the unique animals and organisms who inhabit each state. In the fourth grade in Massachusetts, students study the geography of North America in social studies. At the same time, in science, students learn about living organisms and the habitats in which they live. I teach at a rural school in south central Massachusetts where many students have not yet had the opportunity to leave New England, and are only familiar with the animals in this area.

Like most schools in Massachusetts and around the country, we are faced with financial difficulties. At the same time, most of the available funds for academics are focused primarily in the areas of math and English, as those are the main focci of standardized tests. This rug will allow us to provide a unique learning tool for the areas of science and social studies.

I am asking for a donation of the rug, which I would plan to place in the reading area of my fourth grade classroom. The rug will be used during formal science and social studies lessons, and will serve as a jumping point for further investigations and research into the geography of North America and the natural habitat of animals.

Your help will make it possible for my students to learn social studies and science in a unique and interesting way, and in a fashion that connects the two disciplines together.
