"I provide the inspiration, you provide the fun stuff!
My Kindergarten students are a racially mixed group of 5 & 6 year old special education students, regular education students, and English Language Learners. This diverse population of children provides a beautiful challenge for me every school year to bring them together as a family and learn to love school.
My Kindergarten students are just beginning to discover the skills of recording their ideas and words on paper. Emergent writers need access to interesting materials with which to create. These materials should be easily accessible and well organized so they can freely use and respect the art of art and writing.
Our Writing and Art Center needs your help! I have a new shelf that I found in a back room that no one was using, and it is EMPTY! The materials I have ordered for this center will provide years of use for my students. They are durable and refillable. My children will have access to these materials every day during our "choice time" where they will self-select materials to create and invent. I can also use them to work with students individually and in small groups on letter and number recognition skills.
Children are naturally inspired to create. Just give them a pair of scissors and some paper and watch what happens!! But what if they don't have the scissors? Your donation will guarantee my students that they will always be able to pick up scissors, or tape or whatever it is they need in order to create what's in their imagination.
My students need 11 items to express themselves, including scissors, colored tape, cute stamps, and alphabet rubbing plates.

Dear Monika, marlene, Lorrie, AIMEE LANG, Deborah, Denise Forte, Patricia, Shannon, Jennifer and Anonymous Donor,
The day our new supplies arrived for our Art and Writing Center, my students swarmed around the table like bees and the creativity has continued. It was thrilling to be able to present them with these supplies, and I plan to reveal new items each week so they can continue their creative momentum. This week, I introduced the foamy sticker shapes, and next week, we will use the stamps in the Math Center to learn and practice the numbers 13, 14, and 15. I stepped back and wrote down a few things I overheard as the children were exploring their new materials. Here are a few things I heard: "OH MAN! We can paint with this [colored] tape!" and "This is SO cool!" One boy looked around and said "Are there scissors?" I quietly handed him the new scissor center box, then snapped his picture. The last quote I wrote down that day was "I just love Kindergarten. Do you think we can live here?" I think that last one sums it up! Thanks again for sharing your love!
With gratitude, Ms. B.

Dear Monika, marlene, Lorrie, AIMEE LANG, Deborah, Denise Forte, Patricia, Shannon, Jennifer and Anonymous Donor,
Thanks to you, I will to be able to share the news with my students that our classroom will be getting our new Art and Writing Center supplies. These materials will last in my classroom for many years to come, so not only will my current students benefit, but Thier little brothers, sisters, and cousins will use them too. I am grateful that you see the importance of public education and access to great education for all children. Art and writing are the way to a child's heart, so thank you for opening your hearts so that my children can express themselves!
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.

"Thank you Shannon. I want you to know that I incorporate the arts in every theme I teach. We discuss classic paintings for art appreciation, use "found" objects to make sculpture, and our easel is open every day during choice time. We also take field trips to the art institute. Much love to you from my kids."

"I gave to this project because I believe it is important to live by Ghandi's words of "be the change you wish to see in the world." All children should have the opportunity to be exposed to the joys of art and to be as successful as they can possibly be. "
