High Interest Books for Low Level Readers

My students need a variety of 16 high interest novels for independent reading so they can raise their reading levels.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

I love my job. I work with high school students who, despite their economic disadvantages, never fail to amaze me with their commitment to their education. However, my kids need a leg up when it comes to their reading skills. My school is located in a community where our budget provides for the bare essentials of a classroom but leaves very little room for anything else. Many of my students enter high school well below accepted ninth grade reading levels, but their earnestness and willingness to work hard inspires me every day.

Students are unfailing in their devotion to our independent reading units but our school's library does not service their varied interests. We work hard to overcome this by utilizing the local library, but it's very hard to make this a daily part of our classroom culture.

In short, we're looking to expand our existing classroom library with new materials in a variety of genres. The important thing in choosing new books for our class is that they appeal to low level readers. From fantasy to mystery... chick lit to Japanese manga, these books will give students to chance to expand their reading horizons beyond our textbooks.

My students need this opportunity. Giving my students the opportunity to experience books they might not be exposed to will open their horizons to the world of literature. These books were carefully chosen to service their unique needs; by immersing themselves in these novels during independent reading time, my kids will be able to raise their reading levels to a place where they can feel confident in their abilities. Your donation will make it possible for my students to learn to become life-long readers. Thank you for your time and consideration!
