Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach an amazing group of gifted students within my Gifted Seminar classroom. My students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders and they are all from underprivileged families. Every two years I take a small group of these students to Europe.

In order to go on these trips, students must study about the places they want to visit and they must fundraise for two years. They must maintain a 3.0 GPA and they must have no discipline referrals. It is my hope that providing these wonderful adventures for students will encourage them to stay in school and go on to college.

At our school there are three sets of projectors and screens available for over 100 staff members. The laptops are old and slow. It is very difficult to easily show slides or to download great programs from the Internet to show in the classroom. When we traveled to Italy, England and France in 2008, we took a lot of great pictures. It would have been wonderful to be able to show these pictures to "future travelers" more easily. In 2010 we are taking a group of students to Italy and Greece. Prior to the trip it would be great to have more technology available to help educate and excite my students. They are SO deserving!

Your support of this project will not only help change the lives of my current students, but it will also help change the lives of many students to come! When one of my students and I were standing next to each other at the top of the Eiffel Tower last summer, she turned to me with tears in her eyes and said, "Miss. I never thought I would be here! Thank-you!"
