Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Authors are real people, too! In first grade, children are learning how to write, embracing themselves as authors. Our school is focused on creating writers in everyone of our students. We have done extensive work determining what our writers need in order to be successful. Many of our students truly don't understand that they too can become an author like Eric Carle.

The students that walk through our doors come to class wanting to learn about the outside world. They want to know how books are written and illustrated. They show an interest in learning about great authors and illustrators and will often mirror what they read in their own tales.

We need books written and illustrated by Eric Carle in order to really study his craft and get to know him. With these books, my students can read and learn about Eric Carle's style, study his art, and reflect their learning in their own writing. We will also write letters to Eric Carle himself telling him about what we have learned and ask him questions to further our learning.

Your help will ensure that my students have the opportunity to read great literature by a very creative person. They will begin to see that being an author is something they can achieve with hard work, creativity, and perseverance.
