Taking a class from average to excelling is never easy. What makes it even harder is trying to purchase the necessary materials on a limited budget. Teaching in a small, rural, central Illinois high school which is considered at moderate poverty level makes my job of teaching high school English difficult at times. With only so much to go around, supplies have to be purchased discriminantly.

While I have two year old textbooks, the American Literature course I teach needs supplementary texts in order to take my honors students beyond the basics. My students need to be challenged and go beyond what is in the textbook in order to fully experience an honors level course which is preparing them for AP level coursework.

By purchasing the texts "A Documentary History of the United States" and "A History of American Literature" you can help my students will move to the next level. They will experience AP level texts and be able to prepare for the AP Literature and Composition test. By adding these texts, I will be able to allow my students to grow as individuals and a class. My students will also be better prepared for college level work as the texts will be more advanced than the average high school text.

Your help will ensure that my students will continue to grow as students and as citizens of this country. My students will have the opportunity to understand that literature is more then just items in a bookstore but will really understand its place in history. Your generous donations will make my students' academic progress possible.
