The Way Water Works!

My students need Arthur Season 10 on DVD, 2 science magnetic boards, 144 pencils, a weather activity tub, and 6 book about water and the weather.

I teach enthusiastic and active second graders at a Title 1 inner city charter school. My students work with very little supplemental materials. They crave exciting lessons with lots of ways to interact with the material beyond just a textbook.

My students this past year loved learning about recycling and realizing they can do things to save the planet. I would like to take my students on a trip of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC as a culminating activity for the end of a unit focusing on water conservation. My current curriculum does not have a unit focused on this issue. I would like to create a unit focused on water conservation and making an impact on the planet. This unit would teach my students about the water cycle, weather, and how they can save water and in turn save the planet.

To teach this unit I need supplemental books and tools to help the students interact with the concepts in this unit. The supplies needed include a DVD set of PBS' Arthur which has specific episodes about water and energy conservation. Your donation will also help fund a number of books that will guide my lessons and be a resource for the students during the unit. With the help of these books I plan to also incorporate water conservation into literacy, teaching students to read non-fiction text fluently. All of these supplies will help me to create lessons that meet their varied needs in learning about water conservation.

Your help will make it possible for my students to learn about water conservation and realize that they are capable of making a difference!
