Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a fourth grade class in a high poverty school district. My school district is the only district taken over by the state and now the state is strongly considering giving fewer funds to public schools. My students come from a low social economic background. I teach in an inclusion class, a class where the general and special education students learn alongside each other. I serve as the special educator. I am required to provide differentiated instruction for my hard-working students.

My students will often be taught whole class lessons and may require additional support regarding their understanding of instruction. A table placed in the back of the room will allow me to provide additional instruction and give my students more confidence in a smaller group setting, rather than in whole class instruction. Students often have a fear of asking questions in front of the class, thus working in a small group is less intimidating.

A table shaped like a horseshoe will allow me to sit in the center and work with a small group of students. In addition, it can be used for reading groups. The table will give my students a place to clarify information in a smaller group. Future classes will use it as well. It will give my students a wonderful learning opportunity to do well.

By funding this important classroom item, you will allow me to provide an awesome differentiated learning experience. My students will gain so much! Please remember this, my students and I are the will and you are the way. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay.
