Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A picture is worth a thousand words! I teach PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) in a Title 1, low-income, Texas elementary school. I also co-teach Pre-K students who serve as typically developing peers for our inclusion classroom. Usually we have between 20-25 students total. They are here to increase their language, social skills, and have a meaningful school experience that will prepare them for Kindergarten. Some students have Autism, Speech delays, and other disabilities. All our students are unique, amazing children.

Every year I purchase several photo books that document our school experiences. I make photo books of all our field trips (i.e. Farm, Children's Museum, etc.), special activities (i.e. Track & Field Day, et.), and school days. I pay for these books out of my own pockets and it adds up! But I want to be able to send children home with long-lasting memories of their year in Pre-K or PPCD. It is a great language activity to be able to "read" the books with their families and name their friends, describe the special activities, and build school vocabulary.

With a gift certificate to Shutterfly, I will be able to purchase enough books for each student to take home a least one book at the end of the school year. The students will then have a permanent memory of the joy and learning that took place throughout the school year. Before I send them home, I will put the books in our library so they can read their class books during the school year.

You will make it possible for all my students to have a memory of their year in Pre-K or PPCD. They will be able to share their memories with their families and hopefully keep these books for a very long time.
