Military Students Travel The World- Through Books!

My students need a wide variety of high interest fiction and nonfiction books, including a Character Building Stories Paperback Library and a number of Science-themed readers.

Have you ever wanted to sail across the Atlantic with a pirate, fly to outer space with Neil Armstrong, go back in time in a magic treehouse, and then sleep peacefully under the Great Kapok tree in the rain forest? Our military students will get to travel the world through books. I am a reading resource teacher in a high need community with more than half of our population being military.

Sometimes students don't realize the journey that books can take them on. Students see reading as boring. They want excitement in their lives! And all we need are the right books to guide them on their journey. We are in need of high interest fiction and nonfiction books that will spark our kids interests so that journey can begin. These books would be used at school as well as part of an at home lending library. Many of our military students do not have books at home to read.

These exciting, action filled books will grab them and pull them into the adventure that they won't even realize they aren't watching TV! The key to getting kids hooked on books is tapping into their interests. Kids don't like all TV shows...just the ones they are interested in. It works the same way with books. Kids want excitement, adventure, suspense, humor, and characters they can relate to. We've found books that have these same qualities. Let's put these books in front of our students so they too can realize they love to read!

Help us give our students the passport to reading! Allow them to travel through the world of books and discover all the excitement that reading has to offer. With your help, you will make it possible for our students to embark on these reading adventures. By providing them with high interest fiction and nonfiction their interests will be sparked and they will have great books that they will be dying to read at home.
