Have you ever looked up close at an amazing, crawling bug, or even let the bug stare you in the eye? Being able to get closer to the world around a child and allowing them to see things they wouldn’t be able to with the naked eye is an amazing thing. As a teacher of all subjects, I wish my students could experience these opportunities whenever they occur. Young second graders are extremely curious and should have the right to be able to explore the world around them. If only each and every one of us were crafted like the “6 million dollar man.” With our bionic eyes, we would be able to look closely at amazing things. Since no one is built in such a way, having individual magnifying glasses would allow my students to do just that.

Our science activities are only limited by our resources. Our class finds that science is everywhere. It’s in the clouds in the sky, a rock on the playground, or a tree branch that has fallen off the tree, but still so full of life. Having a class set of magnifying glasses would allow my class to take a closer look at so much that lies around them. We would be able to look closely at our finger prints and discover more about our selves. We would be able to look at the bark on a tree limb and see what parts make up the whole tree. We would finally have our bionic eyes.

With a class set of magnifying glasses, we’d be able to discover the things around us as a whole group. This would allow us to investigate as we’re all looking at the same item up close and personal. We’d be able to share out thoughts and our feelings and learn from each other as we discover. These tools can help establish a foundation to build on for the rest of my students lives.

In such a way, you will be rebuilding my students for success. You have the capability of making my students better scientists, stronger people, and faster learners. What’s to say your act of kindness won’t light a spark in one of my students and influence them to become the next Albert Einstein?
