My students need an Anet A8 3D printer. It is just parts, so they will have to learn how to assemble it! They also need some filament so when it is assembled we can start printing!
I teach high school students from 9th to 12th grade. My classes are incredibly diverse.
I have every type of student in my classroom and it is amazing to watch how they all support each other, work together, and help each other learn and grow.
In my art room, you will students from all walks of life. Many of them are highly creative, but do not know where to channel their energy. They are hardworking, kind, compassionate and smart, and love to work with their hands, but often don't know where these interests can lead them. I would like to provide them with an outlet for their energy, a makerspace so they can see that their creativity can lead to great things.
My Project
I would like to begin to incorporate 3D printers in my introductory art class. My eventual goal is that all students will learn how to use the printer and can then use it to create projects for all the classes in the school.
I believe that by introducing printing like this takes away much of the mystery of printing and puts it in the hands of some of the most creative people in our society - our children!
So, I am starting with filament and one printer that the students will have to build and go from there! I did this at a different school and was highly successful. People who never thought about considering the field of engineering all of a sudden realized that they think like an engineer! It was such a joy to watch!
