Please Help My Kids Experience the Magic of Read Magazine.

My students need 28 subscriptions to Read Magazine. This is an amazing literary magazine that is challenging, fun, and interesting to teenagers. Each issue targets a specific theme like monsters, practical jokers, time travel, etc. In each issue, there are fiction and nonfiction articles, poems, and my favorite, a play adapted from a classic literature piece. The magazine is an absolute gem!

Our school is located in a rural community and serves approximately 430 students in grades six, seven, and eight. As a seventh grade language arts teacher, I have found that my students L-O-V-E to read.

In years past, there has been extra money available to purchase supplemental materials like Read Magazines. I keep a drawer full of old Reads for my kids to use and they clamor for more. Would I love to share new copies with fresh new themes and amazing new stories, poems, and plays? I absolutely would. Will this be a possibility, given the state of our economy? Doubtful. This year, teachers are losing their jobs, class sizes are going up, and budgets are shrinking. There is no way that there will be any additional money for Read Magazines.

A class subscription to Read Magazine lasts a long, long time. These are not "throw away" magazines. These are keepers! The last time I was able to purchase a class subscription was 3 years ago and those magazines have been used repeatedly by each of my classes, each year. That's what I call getting your money's worth!

I hope someone will be able to fund my request for a class subscription to Read Magazine. I remember being in middle school and reading this magazine. I was fascinated with it then, just as my students are fascinated with my old copies now. Any funding that would help me share the wonders of Read Magazine with my students would very greatly be appreciated. Thank you for your consideration!
