My students need 75 USB flash drives to save computer work for chemistry class.

I teach high school chemistry to high school juniors and seniors. My school does not receive much federal funding for technology, so we have to seek other sources. My students are college preparatory students who plan on at least two or four years of education beyond high school.

Even though we have received several laptop computers through Donors Choose, students often need to work on their chemistry lab reports and projects at home. I want to encourage them to do so by providing USB flash drives so that they can save the work they do in class and take the flash drive home to complete their work.

The technology specialist has informed me that all students need to use the same brand of flash drive on our classroom computers. Therefore, I need to have a supply for my students to use that are all the same brand. This will allow my students to save computer work in an efficient manner. All students will have the same opportunity to complete their work at home. I want all students to be equally competitive for excelling in their work. Having the flash drives available to them will benefit the students because they will not have to re-create their work to complete it. The more technology experiences I can provide for my students, the better prepared they will be for college. I plan to distribute the flash drives for completion of formal lab reports. These are lab reports that we start in class. Each student is then responsible for writing an analysis and conclusion independently. The flash drives will facilitate the completion of this work.

Your contribution to this proposal will help my students work on independent writing skills. The flash drives will also allow me to check individual understanding of the labs, since they will be working alone on completing lab reports. It is important for students to work independently as they prepare for college.
