I teach 8th grade reading to a classroom of urban students thirsty for classical literature.

My students have loved reading Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. However, due to a departing teacher who owns the books, our school no longer has copies.

Our class needs 30 copies of each title to refill our library, plus a teacher's manual. My students love reading these books, and the 7th grade is super excited to read them. These books will give my students a chance to read classic American novels. The books will also prepare them for high school by allowing them to read complex literature. As a class we will discuss how life today is different from life in the 1800’s. We will also use these books by interweaving social studies content and our reading curriculum. While reading the students will also create dioramas, timelines, story maps, character maps, and write essays pertaining to the novel.

Your help will keep classic literature in a public school for years to come and keep the tradition of reading Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn alive in our school.
