Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come from low income homes. When you have limited resources you eat what you can buy things that can stay on the shelf a while and that are inexpensive.
My school working very hard to become a magnet school next year that focuses on Health and Nutrition. We know that obesity is a leading cause of death in the United States now and we are focused on changing that. This project would create a garden for the students in my Kindergarten class. They would plant it and tend it together. My goal is to show students how they can grow inexpensive foods that are also healthy for them. I also want to introduce them to some new foods that they may not try otherwise. They will always eat what they plant! An added bonus is the sense of community that will happen when they work together to tend the plants. Please help us to make our garden grow!
To start our garden, we need some supplies. The soil surrounding our school does not support plant life, so we need potting soil! We also need seeds, watering cans, and tools.
If you choose to help us, my students will not just be learning about plants and gardening. They will be learning to be healthy eaters for life!
