I am a literacy specialist that services students in reading in grades K-5. We have a large population of socioeconomically disadvantaged students and a large population of English Language Learners. These students do not come to us with the same experience and background knowledge that the majority of students in the U.S. do today.

In order to utilize the available technology, I need a mobile laptop to provide students with rich, multimedia activities that will provide for them the opportunity to learn about various subjects and subject matter that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

With this mobile laptop, I will be able to incorporate various multimedia in the form of videos, pictures, sounds, and interactive activities. It is much easier for students to understand a concepts if they can see it, rather than hear me describe it or see me draw it.

Our school is in its fifth year of not meeting adequate yearly progress. A large portion of my time is dedicated to helping these students become successful in their academic careers. These students start with an unfair advantage because of their lack of background knowledge and experiences. The use of technology in my lessons will give me the ability to expose them to subjects using various forms of media, instead of just text.
