I am an intervention teacher at a Natural Science Magnet School in a large urban district. I work with low-income students who are struggling readers and writers. A significant portion of my students are English Language Learners who respond particularly well to visual mediums like movie making.

For years I have found that making movies with my first and second grade students has benefited their ability to comprehend and their motivation to write. Students have participated in class productions of Star Wars to teach folktales, film noir detective tales to teach animal camouflage, a first grade horror film, and written and filmed their own commercials and personal narratives. These projects have engaged reluctant learners and made our curriculum relevant and interesting to them.

We are ready to take our movies to the next level. Cheesy special effects have been fun but with Adobe After Effects we would be able to create more sophisticated movies that include special effects.

We are experiencing deep cuts in our school and our district at the moment. I don't dare ask our administration if they would be able to purchase this for our class. Without your help, this would not be possible. In the face of adversity all around us, this would be a bright spot for students this year as well as my future students.
