Bare Essentials- An Art Island Plan

My students need supplies to assist us in learning including markers, scissors, glue, tape, and pencils.

Students need basic materials to learn!! This has been my hardest year of teaching because all of my creative lesson plans require materials and families can not afford them. I teach 112 middle-school students and we are considered Title I, however these students are some of the brightest children in the state. We are located in South Carolina and we are proud of our slogan "Smiling faces and beautiful places".

My students are embarrassed of their own short falls. We have so many projects to enhance our learning and due to the economy, my students are complaining that they could not put forth their true effort because they did not have the materials at home. I can see the same events take place in my classroom. We have to share the same stapler, tape, glue, etc... and it makes it hard to accomplish a day's work. I have one set of colored pencils and for the students who do not have a set, it is sit around and wait on the right color. My students love to be creative but can not due to the limited supplies in our classroom.

Ok- Are you ready? The cabinets are bare as ever. My students wanted to create an Island project but because we were short on paper, glue, colored pencils, tape, etc... we had to wait. I told them we could take donations and we got one thing of used tape. It was like getting fruit for Christmas. The kids want to show their ability to display their knowledge in more ways than pen and paper. This donation would allow my students to show off their creativity. Please remember we are only asking for the basics.

Our classroom is so bare. The walls are bare and the students laugh at our broken pencil sharpener. There is one kid who is the unfortunate one to have the hand-held. I think he sharpens at least 20 pencils each class. The district can not buy anymore pencil sharpeners and I have had 10 removed from my room. You know the saying "If it is not bolted down, it's gone!" I can't do anything to assist with our supplies at this time but I am in desperate need to give my students a wonderful learning experience. Help me make them proud and give us the materials we need to display our work.
