I work in a low income/high poverty school district teaching 7th grade language arts. Every day we do 20 minutes of silent reading.

The students very rarely get a chance to read at home because most of them have very dysfunctional home lives. They come from single family homes and usually go home to an empty home after school, sometimes needing to babysit younger siblings. We are trying to instill a love of reading, hoping that it will keep children out of trouble.

We are looking for chairs for a reading center. Our class engages in 20 minutes of silent reading every day. I give them the freedom to choose where they would like to sit for their reading. Sometimes the students will sit on the counter or even under their desks. If we had some bean bag chairs and reading rockers for a small reading center, the students would be more comfortable while engaged in independent reading. A relaxing center for them to read in would help.

Please help me give my students a comfortable, safe place to read and relax. It will also be a start to a reading center where we can hold book discussion.
