I teach English at a low income school in Texas, and receiving anything beyond the necessary materials is very uncommon. This will be the year that I bring journalism back to the school.

When I decided to start up a school newspaper and journalism department, I knew the chances of receiving a digital camera were slim, but the students need them to bring their news stories to life and make them interesting to the other students. Many of the students expressed a desire to be involved with the school newspaper, and some plan to continue journalism in college, but until this year they have not been able to prepare themselves for college level journalism because there has not been a program. This new program will allow the students to get on the right track to college journalism.

My students will need to have three digital cameras to cover stories in the school and local community. This will allow students experience with photography and then bring it back to the classroom in order to write news stories that can be published to the school.

You will make it possible for my students to develop their writing and photography skills through the use of digital cameras in our new journalism department. This will give students bound for college journalism a head start on their skills, and help others have resources that help them on their path to getting accepted to a college.
