"I am the technology/computer teacher in a school with almost 600 students. I teach every child in the school once a week. Most of our students are receiving free or reduced lunches to help their families financially.

Literacy is a main emphasis at our school and reading daily is essential to help the students get proficient. It is harder for students who struggle to read to decode their words alone without the reinforcement and encouragement of a strong reader.

In other subject areas, a lesson presented in class could easily be brought to life if other senses are involved. We need to use creative ways to capture the students' attention with an interesting and eye-catching new medium, using pictures, words and music.

One way for our students to practice their reading is to use recorded books and headphones in a listening center while they read along in their books. This will let them hear the proper pronunciation of their site words while they see them in print.

For the other subject areas, an mp3 player with a video screen would allow students using the listening center to also see a lesson at the same time. I could enlist older students to create podcast lessons for younger students to view. I would create podcasts for the older students myself.

I would expect learning to increase with the use of these two listening centers. Students will be intrigued by the new technology of the podcasts and would be able to enjoy learning so much more if they use more of their senses and stay focused on their work. What a difference the listening centers will make to our school!

By providing two mp3 listening centers for my class, you will help many children enjoy success in reading, math, science and social studies. Their skills will soar with this fun way to learn.

My students need 2 listening centers with mp3 players and headsets so several students can participate in activities that will enhance their learning in all the academic subject areas. The cost of this proposal is $537, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."
