School of Rockin' 'Roons

My students need drumsticks and guitar amps to learn to play in a rock band.

There is more to high school music than band and choir. I teach a School of Rock class to 9th -12th graders. Students learn how to play the guitar, keyboard and drums and form their own band for a Rock Concert at the end of school.

Many students have untapped talent and no outlet to use it. This class offers them an opportunity to learn to channel these talents in a positive setting. We have students in this program who have stayed in school because of this class.

I began this program in 2004 with donors "Adopting An Instrument." Due to space issues and instrument numbers, we are only able to accommodate 20 students per year. We have taught music to over 100 students, but the instruments, amps, drum sticks, and heads are wearing out and need to be replaced. If this program encourages students to want to come to school, then I need to continue to offer it.

With your help, students can continue in this program by making music a part of their lives. Think of how you would have felt if you could have had an opportunity to be in a Rock Band. This gives some of them a reason for coming to school and finishing. Please help in anyway you can. Thank you.
