I teach an introductory computer class where students learn skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Many students want to complete work at home, but don't have an efficient method to transport files. Students also present PowerPoints, one of them is about their favorite hobby.

Several students do not have a study hall and are involved in extra curricular activities after school. They are not able to come in to work on assignments and many do not have flash drives to take files home with them. I try to teach students proper presentation techniques relating to PowerPoint. One of the elements is not standing behind a computer when they present. I teach them this, but we don't have a remote to advance the PowerPoints from another spot in the room. I have another student do the clicking for the presenting student, but that doesn't always work out too well. In a professional setting students will have to be able to multitask running the show on their own while presenting.

I would like to be able to check out flash drives to students who need them in order to complete work at home. I really think this would take some pressure off the students, giving them the freedom to work at home and do a quality job. A PowerPoint remote for presentation would allow students to run their own show, like they would in a real job. It would be a good practice for college presentations as well.

By funding this project, you will ensure that my students are able to complete their work on time, while working in the comforts of their own home. They will not have to worry about how they will get something done--they can check out a flash drive to do it at home. Students will be better at presenting, not only in my class, but in other classes in high school. They will get accustomed to speaking in front of people as well.
