My students need a binding machine so they can create their own books out of the materials that are provided to them. We have been using the library binding machine, but it needs to be replaced.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A unique way of learning is one way to describe the students in my classroom. You see, my students are moderate/severely handicapped students, and yet they all thrive to put forth their best selves every day. Fairfield is a city that is high gang activity and violence, and while that does effect a small group of students on campus, it does not define who we are as a whole. We are a No Excuses University School and thrive to teach our students that they too can achieve greatness both during their high school career and beyond!
My Project
The reading program that we use in the classroom is called Unique Learning System. ULS is a great program that provides symbol based reading materials for readers who need the extra support. While the books are available online to use on our Smartboard, I also like to provide my students with an actual copy of the book for 1:1 work in the classroom, practice at home, etc. I am able to request that the books be printed in our print shop, but they do not come bound into books. For the past couple years I have been able to use the binding machine in our library, but this machine jams a lot, can only punch holes in up to 8 pages at a time, and is broken in several places. In short, it is very old in age and needs to be upgraded. This machine will be used in my classroom, and will also be available for all teachers on campus to use as well. In addition this is going to provide work experience for my students as we will offer book making services for teachers who have projects to complete, but lack the time to complete them. I am requesting a book binding machine as well as the combine and coverstock needed to make our books.
