Scientists Need Libraries, Too!

My students need 2 bean bags, a 12'x6' carpet, a listening center, an aquarium with accessories and a collection of Science books.

I teach a group of very intelligent, inquisitive, and insatiable sixth graders at an urban elementary school.

My students are excellent readers, but studies show that even the best readers in the upper elementary grades lack essential non-fiction reading skills. They need to be exposed to a variety of non-fiction texts and given a comfy place to immerse themselves in it.

A rug, some comfy bean bag chairs, an aquarium, listening center, and books will allow me to create an inviting space where children can self-select their learning experiences. Learner-directed lessons have been found to be the most valuable and most long-lasting educational experiences.

Help me build a classroom library that will both pique my students' curiosities and enrich the curriculum they have already been exposed to. By funding my request for library equipment, you will be providing me with the tools I need to encourage my students to be life-long learners.
