Talking Without Saying a Word!

My students need DVDs pertaining to the skill of communicating in American Sign Language.

We are a growing school in a rural area of South Carolina. Approximately 25% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Many have no life experience beyond this small town and no hope for local employment now that the textile industry has vanished.

Our state just approved American Sign Language as a world language credit. We will be one of 3 schools in the state offering this course next year. Students have jumped at the opportunity to learn this unique language and potentially move into the field of interpreting or Deaf Education. We are starting from scratch and need to build resources for our students who are hungry to dive into the Deaf world.

The DVDs I am requesting will allow my students to build their skills by working with native language users in this amazing visual language. Using DVDs is second best to live native language users, but they will allow for the repetition that beginning language learners need.

Your assistance will possibly launch careers that will "pay it forward" for many years. Students who learn ASL may fall in love with the Deaf world and decide to interpret or teach in the Deaf community. You will be opening doors for my students who will later open doors for the Deaf Community.
