We Need a Projector!!!!!!

My students need a LCD projector.

I am a high school Social Studies teacher and a high school Speech & Debate team coach. My school district is HIGH POVERTY. I teach 4-5 classes (120 STUDENTS) and I coach 40-50 STUDENTS on the debate team each school year.

In the SOCIAL STUDIES classroom: I frequently want to incorporate multimedia resources such as speeches and video clips. I also like to help guide the students in their note-taking by having powerpoint slides of key issues/points on the screen as I conduct my lessons. Finally, I have my students conduct presentations through the school year, but without access to a projector they cannot make a modern effective presentation. I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome so my writing is frequently very painful and illegible, which forces me to type. Unfortunately, we do not have enough projectors for every teacher to get one. On the SPEECH & DEBATE TEAM: The private and middle class school districts that we compete with frequently send their students to college run speech and debate camps. These students get access to college professors and resources that my students cannot afford. A projector would allow me to expose them to college level lectures on philosophy, politics, government, and the arts at practice in a classroom setting. It would also allow me to prepare multimedia lessons for my debaters to cover the college level content that is inherent to Speech & Debate.

An LCD projector would allow me to prepare multimedia lessons for my classroom and for my debate team. The LCD projector would also allow me to expose my students to college level lectures and content in a controlled classroom environment that would foster meaningful discussion and learning. Finally, by incorporating technology into my lectures & lessons I would help my students get the necessary technology skills to empower them in college, in the workplace, and beyond.

A LCD projector would help me prepare my students for college level content. Your donation will also help develop their research and presentation skills in preparation for college and their careers. I am a firm believer in hands-on experiential learning. Access to a LCD projector would allow my Social Studies students and my debaters to actively control their own learning. They will not just sit and listen to lectures, but will be generating their own projects and research! Students who compete in Speech & Debate in high school arrive at college miles ahead of other college freshman.
