Music is part of History!

My students need a classroom Boom Box to play various music CDs from different historical eras.

Wouldn't you have enjoyed History class more if your teacher had played music from each era? I teach tenth grade students in an urban public school in Pennsylvania. The majority of my students are at poverty level and have special needs.

My students require differentiation in their learning. Not all of my students grasp the information after reading the textbook. My students suggested that I play music from each time period so they can better associate themes and ideas from the curriculum. My classroom needs a boom box so I can play a variety of music from the times periods we study.

My students each have a different learning style. This will help my students place themselves in the time period we are discussing and add a layer to what we are reading in the textbook. We need a boom box so, for example, when discussing the Great Depression, I could play swing and bebop music. When studying the Vietnam War I could play Bob Dylan, The Animals and The McCoys.

By donating a boom box to my classroom you will help bring music of all eras to a new generation. You will help them learn the themes of these time periods as well as broaden their taste in music. My students who require a different mode of learning will greatly benefit from something more than a pencil and book.
