My students need Spanish-English dictionaries to support their curiosity in learning the language. They also need educational Spanish magazines to help them learn in an authentic, yet engaging way.
My students are vibrant young men and women. They come from a small town known mostly for factory and agricultural work. They represent diverse socioeconomic situations, but collaboratively work together well. I teach high school students that come from ninth through twelfth grades with different interests, strengths and struggles. When they come together in the classroom and see that they can excel in the use of another language together, their differences fall away.
My students have a unique interest in learning Spanish and my hope is that I can inspire them to carry on their study of the language into the future.
My Project
My students are often curious how to say certain words in Spanish. "Hey Sr. D, how do you say __?" Spanish-English dictionaries will aide them in being self-starting, eager writers. They also need help interpreting what they read. "What does the author mean by ___ in our Spanish novel?"
Access to Spanish magazines will pique student interest and provide a fun way for students to learn.
They flip through at their leisure and read articles that interest them. Together we can discuss language structures and cultural topics in a natural and entertaining way. The magazines are also current and contain info on pop stars, athletes and special celebrations.
