All students love having their favorite book read to them. My class of 23 kindergartners, many who are English language learners and low-income students, are no exception. These children often do not get quality literacy experiences in the home, so any extra time spent listening to teachers or someone reading can greatly impact their learning.

The current listening center in our classroom is falling apart. Cassette tapes get ripped up all the time and often students will not choose to go listen to stories on tape, because the experience is quite frustrating. The students who need a listening center the most, the English language learners, are not getting the opportunity to explore their interests because of the lack of technology.

You can help make a difference for 23 students by donating funds to make purchasing new and updated materials possible. Not only will we be able to listen to cassettes with ease, we will also be able to make our own books to go along with favorite songs on CD, a technology not possible in our classroom right now.

Every little bit could help struggling students learn from engaging songs, poems, rhymes and materials. Listen closely and you will hear the sound of our future generation learning!
