The 106 kindergarten students that would have the opportunity to use the materials we are asking for have many interests. They enjoy sports, karate, music, animals, and video games. 45% of the children are on free or reduced lunch. Fifty three children are of Caucasian descent, thirty-six are African American, ten are Hispanic, six are Asian, and one is other.

We have noticed that making a school to home connection with our children has been very positive. So many of our parents want to help out at home but just don't have the resources to do this. By providing these take home homework packs these children are given the opportunity to interact on a regular basis with an adult at home and feel responsible for bringing a class item back to school. Children take pride in having homework at this age and with these homework packs they are able to enjoy their homework and spend much needed quality time with an adult.

Our students will be able to have the opportunity to take home a homework pack and work with an adult on fun, creative, and engaging assignments. They will return these to school and each child will have the opportunity to experience many different lessons and will make that school to home connection that every child needs. Students will take home reading bags which include a storybook and activities. The reading bags will be used to enhance reading at home. Providing students with these reading bags will make a positive connection from school to home. We believe reading is one of the keys to opening a child's mind for learning. Parent and student involvement makes learning fun and exciting. Our ELA standards are targeted by the students read from a variety of genres. They will begin to analyze text, relate to literature, build comprehension skills, and create written responses to text. Each take home pack features a delightful storybook and four double-sided write and wipe cards with skill building activities. The students will get lots of engaging hands-on manipulatives. What a fun way to enhance reading at home and at school. Many of our busy parents do not have the time or energy to find the material to promote their child's reading. These kits provide a complete package benefiting the student, parent, and teacher.

We hope that you will assist us. We have over 100 kindergartners that are dying to start using a homework pack! They would take pride in these awesome tools and it would be such a positive experience for parents to be able to assist them with their homework and learning with these provided materials.
